The city council will work out some wrinkles in their lease agreement with Heritage Group North, Nov. 23, for the red caboose located near the Paul Bunyan Trail in Pine River.
The council previously signed a lease with the non-profit HGN in October for trailside space to locate the railway caboose.
However, there was a typo on the second page of the lease referring to "the depot" instead of "the caboose" that the city addressed at their November meeting.
The city's attorney Ted Lundrigan was absent at the October meeting - and gave recommendations for city councilors to discuss at their 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23 planning meeting held at city hall.
Considerations for a revision included: referring to the specific plot of land that the caboose would be set on; a set duration for the lease with beginning and end dates; removal of a lease termination on mutual agreement clause; and definition of what repair and maintenance consist of.
The city tabled the issue until their planning meeting. They have invited HGN representatives to attend to discuss the lease at that time.
If agreement is reached, the city may amend the lease at their Dec. 15 regular city council meeting.
The council will also confer with Lundrigan regarding a pending Pine River Depot lease agreement.
The city sent HGN a letter of intent to lease the depot to them, following the city's receipt of the depot from the state, which currently owns it.
Lundrigan suggested that the city meet with HGN and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to discuss a lease.
In other city matters the council:
Approved liquor license renewals for the Holiday Station Store, Ultimate Liquors off-sale, and the Pine River American Legion club.
Renewed a lease with Matt Shamp for 21 acres of land near the airport at $20 per acre for 2010.
Approved a payout for unused police department employee compensated time. Employees earn compensated time for overtime work. If the city does not pay out the compensated time this year, it will get carried over into 2010 for pay out at a higher rate.
Approved an amended lease with Verizon including a 3 percent increase annually. Verizon's lease for 2010 will be $964. Verizon's lease with the city allows them to locate their antenna on top of a city water tower. Verizon will also place a generator at the base of the water tower for use in a power failure.
Approved a $250 donation to the Warehouse in Pine River for use of their facilities for public hearings during the annexation trial. Wilson Township also made a $250 donation.
